There's only one more month until school starts up again and summer 2019 is a distant memory... :(
That being said, the month of August gives us 31 sunny days to take advantage of. Whether you need a last-minute getaway/break from work or just want to spend as much time with your kids as possible before the school year begins, we have a short list of 4 vacation destinations that don't require deep planning. Enjoy!
On the coast of North San Diego County, the city of Del Mar epitomizes an upscale “beach town”, letting you pretend its summer, all year-round. There are over two miles of sandy beaches – ideal for sunbathing, surfing, picnicking, hiking, and enjoying breath-taking views! The end of summer is the perfect time to visit, as August and September are the peak of the racing season at the world-famous Del Mar Race Track. The track is also home to the annual KAABOO three-day music festival (Sep. 16-18, 2019). There is no shortage of fine dining in the area and after spending a full day in the hot sun, Del Mar does not disappoint with late-night food and restaurant options. One weekend in the city “by the sea” (the English translation for “Del Mar”) and you’ll never want to leave!
Thanks to the abundance of sunny days and warm winter weather, Palm Desert is a playground for those who enjoy being active – and for those who don’t. From amazing art and culture to incredible outdoor adventures, you’ll find plenty of things to do during your stay with the family. If you prefer rest and relaxation, there’s no shortage of poolside lounges to chill out and sip cocktails under the cabana. If you prefer a more active vacation, there are more than 110 local golf courses, tennis courts, and sightseeing tours that include The Living Desert Zoo and Garden, museums, and boutique shops around the city. Depending on what time of the year you go, there are world-class film, music, and art festivals happening or you can always try your luck at one of the several casinos. Pro tip: Bring lots of sunscreen!
Just a short distance from Puerto Vallarta’s airport, Sayulita is the relaxing vacation you’ve been looking for. It’s even known for its yoga and meditation retreats. This up-and-coming hot spot still has a small-town feel, making it the perfect getaway for families and couples. No trip to Sayulitas would be complete without getting in the water for some surfing! The beach has areas for both beginners and more experienced surfers. For those who would rather be on land, the forest around Sayulita offers jungle hikes, biking, horseback riding, and ATV-ing. Pro tip: Check out Los Muertos beach for the best snorkeling!
So much to do and so much to see, this popular destination is for every kind of person. Enjoy the outdoors? Lake Tahoe is perfect for hiking, kayaking, fishing, paddle boarding and more. But if you prefer a more relaxing vacation, there are several resorts that offer a full range of activities such as golf, roller skating, spas, and more! The Lake is split into two sections, North Lake Tahoe in Nevada and South Lake Tahoe in California. June through August is the most popular time for summer vacations, with temperatures reaching the high 70s, so plan wisely if this is your ideal vacation timeframe. But fear not, for the warm weather usually continues into September, when crowds start to thin and prices become lower.
